Ways to Thank a Volunteer

It is important to let volunteers know how valuable they are to the success of your organization. Taking the time to get to know a volunteer’s interests and passions can be very helpful in choosing a meaningful way to show appreciation for their contributions. Here are some suggestions to make that process easier.

Thank You Card

One of the most basic, and often forgotten, ways to say thank you is by simply writing a thank you card. A note of gratitude is a simple way to send a message from the heart.

Awards and Medals

An organization can present volunteers with certificates or medals after completing a large project, reaching a certain time of being with the company, or at a recognition ceremony.
Items presented to the volunteer might include plaques, medals, or certificates. While many organizations try to keep within a certain budget, it is worth to spend the few dollars on a creative award that a volunteer can treasure.

Recognition Ceremonies

Some organizations choose to have annual banquets, inviting members of the community, to present the year’s achievements, promote the organization, and to thank those who are involved with the organization. This is an excellent opportunity to thank staff, donors and volunteers who help further the mission of the organization.

Give a Gift

Consider giving the volunteer a gift that has the organization’s logo on it. This kind of gift helps the volunteer feel a stronger sense of connection with the organization.
