Youth Programs: Service Learning Overview

Service Learning gives you a chance to apply what you’re learning in the classroom into the real world. The bonus is, you have the opportunity to apply your skills and personal strengths to activities that benefit other people in your community. Some area high schools, like the Sturgeon Bay Area Schools, require that students perform a certain amount of service hours in order to graduate. Other schools incorporate it into their curriculum or encourage service learning in other ways.

Service Projects offer you the opportunity to:

  • Test your learning in the real world.
  • Make a difference in someone’s life.
  • Work with some of the community’s leaders and professionals.
  • Learn first hand about some of society’s issues, needs and problems.
  • Explore a career possibility.
  • Enhance employability by gaining work experience and references.
  • Experience the satisfaction that comes from working without pay to help someone else.
